REAL AD shares perspectives on inclusive research at the Alzheimer Europe Conference 2025
October 10, 2025This week, the Alzheimer Europe Conference brought together over 1,500 participants from across Europe and around the world – researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and people with lived experience – all united by a common goal: to promote inclusive, collaborative, and meaningful dementia research. The Alzheimer Europe Conference is unique in its ability to connect science, policy, and lived experience. Each year, it offers an open and engaging platform where innovation meets advocacy, and where people with dementia and their families are placed at the heart of research and decision-making.
In a session supported by Gates Ventures, focusing on inclusive research participation and data sharing, Michael Schöll, study leader of the REAL AD study, shared insights and lessons from his presentation: “Bridging inclusion gaps: Learnings from REAL AD and AD-RIDDLE.”
Michael’s presentation highlighted the importance of equitable inclusion and the integration of real-world data in Alzheimer’s research, and how experiences from the REAL AD and AD-RIDDLE projects can contribute to a more open, collaborative, and inclusive research landscape.
The panel brought together several important perspectives: Paddy Crosbie shared insights from lived experience, Matthew Clement presented findings from the Alzheimer’s Disease Data Initiative (ADDI) and the European Platform for Neurodegenerative Diseases (EPND), and Lukas Duffner highlighted results from Alzheimer Europe’s public poll and evidence review.
